Terry

Terry towelling, terry velours

Unlike normal fabrics made from warp and weft, terry has an additional warp system for creating pile loops. Usually terry fabrics are made from cotton and they are well absorbent. The technique originally was invented 1850 in Turkey. Terry velours fabric is first made like terry. After weaving the loops are cut open by sheering on one side, making the material look like velvet. The revers side, however, stays loopy. That’s why terry velours is less resistant to wear. Piles tend to fall out under use.
